“Young Folk” sessions are an opportunity for children to learn traditional folk songs, to have fun singing together as families and to encourage children's musical development.

Young Folk meet for singing and percussion usually from 3 to 4pm at friends' houses, followed by snacks. Joy and Eric usually lead! We have plenty of percussion instruments for everyone to use and look after. At each session we have some new songs - and some old favourites. Don't worry if you've forgotten them - they'll soon come back to you.

Children of all ages welcome. We ask that children are accompanied by an adult - it's a family affair. You can bring grandparents along too if you like. There are no age limits to Young Folk, though it's probably best suited to children from 5-12. There's no charge, but we suggest a donation of £2 per child (certainly no more than £4 a family) to help cover costs - adults free! But the money's not important - we just want to share the music with as many people as possible.

For further information and to confirm dates telephone Fiona on 8540355 or Joy on 0115 9786858 or e-mail Joy.

Here are links to the words of some of the songs we sing. Some of the song words include a link to an mp3 (audio) of Joy singing them. Use the words to learn the songs at home -- but try to come to the session without the support of printed sheets! Suggested amendments to the words and/or extra songs are welcome at any time!

We have also put on-line audio files of a live Young Folk session, a number of nursery rhymes and other children's songs sung by Joy.

Remember to bring your voice with you, and generally no kids without adults, no adults without kids!
